True Rotarian Award 2021

True Rotarian Award - Rotary Club of Summerside

The "True Rotarian" is the foundation of Rotary: always there; contributing to the Club, by any measure, is the lifeblood of Rotary.

The qualities and traits of a True Rotarian are said to be someone who:

- Acts through goodwill and a belief that the world will be a better place as a result of their work in Rotary;

- Has a Rotary Attitude;

- Lives the 4 Way Test at all times;

- Is humble, does not flatter wealth, or boast of their possessions or achievements;

- Speaks with frankness - yet with sincerity and sympathy - and after having expressed an opinion, supports the activities of others even if the direction may not be parallel with their thinking.

The Rotary Club of Summerside is very fortunate to have a diverse membership with many dedicated Rotarians. This year's recipient of the True Rotarian Award certainly exemplifies the desired qualities of the award and is a respected member of our Club and in our community.

We are pleased to announce that this year's True Rotarian Award recipient is Rotarian Paul Matheson.

Paul's contribution to "Service Above Self" is remarkable and commendable. He is always ready to lend a hand and has done just that in various ways since becoming a member of the Rotary Club of Summerside in 1994. He has rolled up his sleeves and volunteered in many fundraising events and club activities. He is always quick to respond when asked for help or advice and he has a "get the job done" attitude. He offers a sincere dedication to anything he gets involved with, something that has been noted and respected by his fellow Rotarians......

Kind Donation Appreciated!

The Rotary Club of Summerside, with support from the City of Summerside, recently had a new sign created and installed at the entrance to the Rotary Friendship Park. The sign was made possible by a generous donation from the estate of Hazel Halliday. Ms. Halliday enjoyed spending time in the Friendship Park. In appreciation of her kind gift and her fondness for the park, the Rotary Club chose to create the beautiful sign to properly grace the main entrance.

World Polio Day

In recognition of World Polio Day (October 24th), the Summerside Rotary club raised $1750, by auctioning off some incredibly scary, brilliantly carved Jack-O-Lanterns. Our guest speaker was Dr. Don Clark,  who is involved with FAME. The organization gathers and ships medical equipment all over the world and also sends out short-term medical missions.  Our Club is presently working with Rotarian Dr. Marvin Clark on sending a container of medical equipment to Haiti.  Dr. Don Clark gave a presentation on the country, which is the third poorest in the world.   This spring, a surgical team is going to Haiti on a medical mission.  Dr. Don Clark, who has been there on medical missions in the past, as well as Dr. Paul Schaefer of Summerside will be part of the medical team.  During his presentation, Dr. Don Clark showed pictures of the town they will be working in (the "town" has a population of 275,000).  The pictures show the poverty, pollution and deforestation that shape the area. Dr. Clark was thanked by Antoine Richard.
