The following is the citation read by Vice-President Paul Power during the presentation of the award to John McCarthy on October 6, 2009:

The Rotary Club of Summerside is very fortunate to have a diverse membership with many dedicated Rotarians. This year's recipient of the True Rotarian Award is no exception.

This Rotarian is always ready to lend a hand, and has done just that in a variety of ways during his many years with the club.  His general positive attitude has been noted by fellow Rotarians, along with a keen sense of humor, as he goes about his business each week.

Will it build goodwill and better friendships?  This year's recipient certainly considers this phrase through his commitment to Rotary on a daily basis, and he is a true professional every step of the way.

He is a member of the Executive and a regular participant and supporter of our many local Rotary projects, along with the regular social events of the Summerside Rotary Club.  As well, in this past year, he has added international work to his resume, as he joined the Rotary mission team to Nigeria.

His commitment and dedication are easily recognized through his actions, and today we are pleased to recognize Rotarian John McCarthy as this year's recipient of the TRUE ROTARIAN award.

John you have been recognized by your fellow Rotarians as a person with great drive (even without your mustang!).  We value your history with the club, your commitment of time and effort in managing our finances, your humble attitude, your great sense of humor, your participation in our many club activities and most of all..your friendship.

Congratulations, and well done!
