The Community Services Committee is responsible for reviewing, investigating and recommending, action to the Executive, and subsequently the membership, for the numerous requests that seek local financial assistance for those people who are physically challenged. Our funding is primarily from our allocation from Easter Seals; in addition to Easter Seals funds, general funds are added if required and if available. Our requests range from: electric wheelchairs, diabetic pumps, bathroom renovations to accommodate wheelchairs and relevant lifts etc., ramps, medical equipment, laptop computers for physically challenged, to vehicles that can carry wheelchairs, etc. It is a satisfying yet also heartbreaking job at times, as we cannot approve all requests, even though they are real needs. We have a very compassionate and understanding committee that seeks to make the best use of the funds available, to ensure "community service" is accessible to all. We consistently seek input from various service groups, senior's groups, church groups etc., that elicit suggestions as to the real unmet needs in Prince County.
