Rotary clubs worldwide mobilize in support of earthquake-ravaged Nepal.

Following the devastating earthquake, which ravaged Nepal in April, Rotary International President Gary C.K. Haung urged Rotary clubs worldwide (1.2 million members) to assist the victims in any way possible. This included contributing to ShelterBox, the international disaster response charity that is Rotary's project partner for disaster relief.

President Gary C.K. Huang stated:

Rotary members worldwide stand together in expressing a profound sadness at the devastation resulting from the deadly earthquake in Nepal.  As we mourn the thousands of lives lost, Rotary joins other international agencies in providing immediate relief to survivors through our partnership with shelter Box and mobilizing our expertise to support long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts throughout the country.

The devastating earthquake killed more than 8,800 and injured over 23,000 people in April 2015. It left countless families and individuals displaced and requiring immediate global assistance. In response to President Huang’s request, the local Rotary Club of Summerside recently made a donation of approximately $2000 (US), purchasing two shelter Boxes. The shelter Boxes will provide emergency shelter and other lifesaving equipment to families that have lost everything following the disaster.
