75th Anniversary![]() Recently, the Rotary Club of Summerside celebrated its 75th anniversary. It all began back in the spring of 1943 with our first president, Peter G. Clark. Since then, some of the most prominent men and women of the Summerside area have served in the club, making our community a better place to live. Another successful Mardi Gras!![]() The Mardi Gras Curling Funspiel and Pancake Breakfast was recently held at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club. Even though Mother Nature did her best to weak havoc on the weekend with a late winter storm, the weekend was once again an overwhelming success. Kind Donation Appreciated!![]() The Rotary Club of Summerside, with support from the City of Summerside, recently had a new sign created and installed at the entrance to the Rotary Friendship Park. The sign was made possible by a generous donation from the estate of Hazel Halliday. Ms. Halliday enjoyed spending time in the Friendship Park. In appreciation of her kind gift and her fondness for the park, the Rotary Club chose to create the beautiful sign to properly grace the main entrance. |

World Polio Day![]() In recognition of World Polio Day (October 24th), the Summerside Rotary club raised $1750, by auctioning off some incredibly scary, brilliantly carved Jack-O-Lanterns. The pumpkins were donated by Wyatt Thompson (son of Rotarian Wayne Thompson), and carved by Rotarian Cathy Gallant, her husband Billy Gallant, and fellow Rotarian Angie Arsenault. They were auctioned off by David Anderson. Thank you to all the members who helped raise the money by generously purchasing these great Halloween decorations, in support of a noble cause. By raising this money, Summerside Rotarians are helping to end Polio! |

Generous Support for the Inspire Learning CentreToday, the Rotary Club of Summerside officially launched its capital fundraising campaign for the Inspire Learning Centre. In attendance were various representatives of government; however, the big news of the day was the announcement that the Government of Prince Edward Island will be supporting the Inspire Learning Centre with a substantial donation of $300,000.

2016 STRIVE Scholarship Recipients![]() Recently the Summerside Rotary Club presented its five $1000 scholarships to the successful Three Oaks Senior High school applicants. Cora Lee was a member of the 2010 Rotary exchange trip to Australia and has been interested in joining the club since that experience. She currently works for the MRSB financial group. Positive ContributionsThe Rotary Club of Summerside recently made its annual contribution to the Prince County Hospital Foundation. The Rotary Club raises the funds, for the Foundation, through its annual golf tournament. Below, President Georgia Ellis is presenting a cheque for $15,000 to fellow Rotarians Heather Matheson and Sandy Rundle, who were also representing the Hospital Foundation.
As well, at our recent Tuesday morning meeting, President Georgia presented a cheque for $3000 to the "Syria to Summerside Community Group," being represented by fellow Rotarian Vance Bridges.

Inspirational PresentationSummerside Rotarians were recipients of an inspirational presentation today by Michelle Hogg from the Notre Dame Place Clubhouse. Michelle is a participant in the Transitional Employment Program which assists people who experience mental illness return to work in the community. Michelle (right) and Notre Dame Place representative Jo-Anne Praught were thanked by Rotarian Les Chipperfield and presented with Maurice Bernard prints in appreciation for their presentation. Couple share their experiences in ZambiaCorina and Peter Bolo shared their experience volunteering in Zambia with a Habitat for Humanity "Global Village" build. They, along with three other individuals are currently working to raise $35,000 CDN to help the village of Kamanga, Lusaka, Zambia complete a unfinished school. The school will be an expansion of the Fruitful Vine School, operated by the Community Based TB/HIV/AIDS Organization (CBTO), which is supported by the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Rotarian Peter Brown presents them with a Maurice Bernard print in appreciation of their presentation.....and close to $250 was raised through fines and contributed to their cause.
